The Best Part of the Oscars

If you didn't see it live, no big. You didn't miss much at the 2009 Oscars. BUT, there were a few bright spots, and this Hugh Jackman led number was certainly my favorite. With a little something for everyone (Hugh Jackman, Beyonce, Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, and Dominic Cooper) this turned out to be one of the best musicals of the year.

NCIS Spin-off gets juicy cast additions

At first I wasn't a fan of the proposed NCIS spin-off. If it ain't broke, don't fix it-right? Maybe I was wrong. I mean, NCIS, was a spin-off of the popular series JAG. Now that casting news for the new series has been released I'm starting to think that maybe the execs at CBS know what they're doing...and a spin-off may be just what the TV doctors ordered.
According to TVGUIDE.COM:

The deals are now done, and Chris O'Donnell and recording artist LL Cool J are on board for CBS' much-ballyhooed NCIS spinoff.

O'Donnell will play Callen, a chameleon-like lead agent, while LL's character, a former Navy SEAL, is described as hard on the outside but "thoughtful, eloquent and disarmingly charming" under the surface.

Previously announced castings include CSI alumna Louise Lombard (as the series' female lead, a military police major turned investigator), Peter Cambor (playing a quick-witted operational psychologist) and newcomer Daniela Ruah (as a young investigator specializing in forensics and criminology).

One Tree Hill: Good News Bad News

One Tree Hill fans thought they could rejoice. The CW ordered another season (the series' 7th) of the hit teen drama...the bad news? Series stars Chad Michael Murray and Hillarie Burton are out.
As far as I'm concerned the show has just announced it's ending after this season. You can't ditch two of the main cast members and expect life to be just peachy in Tree Hill.
Think back to another teen drama with a similar fate: "7th Heaven". The longest running family drama is television history plummeted in its final seasons and left fans angry and confused after almost all of the original cast members pulled out of the series. The show about a family had to start adopting kids in order to fill the gaping holes left by the departure of...well...the family. Hillarie Burton is One Tree Hill's Jessica Biel. Without her, the show can go on, but it shouldn't.
I love the show's other characters. Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, and Bethany Joy Galeotti have done a spectacular job in their own right...but there will always be a big piece of the puzzle missing.

Rachel's Los Angeles Celeb spotting blog - day 1

So here I am in Los Angeles for my spring break and what better to do than keep all you e-buzzers updated on my celebrity sightings.  So today I was in Universal City in Starbucks and had my first real celebrity sighting of the trip. Who was it you ask? Well it was former One Tree Hill hotness Michael Copon (aka Felix).  Copon's was recently linked to the Twilight saga as a likely candidate to replace Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in New Moon.  Although he did not actually get the role, he has a ton of projects in the works and well, hes got his looks working for him.  And also a hot little BMW.

In addition to Michael Copon, in the airport I saw Michael Constantine, aka the Windex loving father from my Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Keep reading and I'll hopefully be updating this soon with some more exciting celebrity sightings!

Chris Brown: Villian or Victim?

It is easy in Hollywood to take sides. The 'facts' are often blow out of proportion, or are just plain wrong. People with no involvement whatsoever in the matter (T.I., Terrence Howard, Kanye West) release statements that further muddy the waters. And the individual who is at the center of the scandal gets irreparable damage done to their image over a matter that may just be a simple misunderstanding.
I'm not defending Chris Brown. I don't know the circumstances of his recent predicament well enough to make a statement either against him or in his defense. Sadly other news organizations don't feel the same way. Chris' alleged abuse of girlfriend Rihanna has escalated into a media frenzie that rivals the Michael Phelps pot picture and the A-Rod steroid scandal.
Lets say this is true. Let's say that Brown and Rihanna got in a heated argument and he hit her. I'm certainly not condoning that type of behavior, but should one mistake (especially if Rihanna did not suffer any physical harm from the incident) cost Brown his career?
Brown's image has been built around a squeaky clean, and wholesome core. Take that away and not only will Brown lose lucrative marketing deals (Wrigleys and Milk have already pulled Brown spots) he'll lose a large chunk of the fan base that has propelled him to stardom.
Also, why is everyone so quick to jump on Rihanna's bandwagon. Is it possible that she got pissed and allowed the situation to get out of hand. Maybe she falsified her story. Automatically assuming her innocance could be a serious flaw.

What's Going On with Jessica Simpson?

Not that many people really care about her anymore, but Jessica Simpson has really started to slip even further off the charts.  Not even a week after being slammed about her weight, Simpson lost it during the her show in Grand Rapids on Thursday.   Simpson admitted on stage that it had been a "rough week" and it really showed through in her performance.  She was shaky, forgot words, and even had to start over during one of her songs.  While fans are standing behind her saying that she seems healthy and just shy, I think she has really hit a new low.  While I feel bad for her, I think she should really stop trying.  After her break-up with Nick Lachey, she's basically gone off the deep end.  Her music was never that great to begin with and now to start over a country singer is really getting desperate.  She used to be headlining tours and now she's been reduced to an opener for country sensation Rascal Flatts. If you ask me, I think she needs some time out of the spotlight to do something other than music, because clearly its not working for her.

Jonas Brothers to Engage in Another Shameless Plug

I write this only because while watching Gossip Girl the other night a fellow EBUZZer texted me in extreme joy after seeing a commercial featuring the Jonas Brothers. The commercial was advertising a CW special, airing next week during 90210 and Privileged where the Jonas Brothers will act as hosts introducing promos and behind the scenes footage.
Usually an act reserved for the Disney Channel, the CW is hoping to channel the young star's energy-and fans-into their Tuesday night lineup. 90210 has already faired well with audiences while Privileged has teetered on the brink of success. The network is hoping the JoBros will encourage viewers to stick around for another hour, while the JoBros hope that viewers will be so inspired by their "behind the scenes" features that they'll shell out upscene amounts of money to watch their 3-D concert when it hits theaters in a few weeks.
Shameless betcha. Will I be watching?...not because of the Jonas Brothers, but yes. Will the Jonas Brothers successfully bring new audiences to the CW as a result of their presence?...looks like it, as according to my text they'll have at least one new viewer on Tuesday.

Don't Mess with the Duff

We told you earlier that former teen queen and Disney starlet Hilary Duff landed the role of Bonnie in a remake of Bonnie and Clyde. Upon hearing about the casting decision Faye Dunaway, who was the original Bonnie, lashed out claiming that Duff wasn't a 'real' actress. I'm not sure what defines a 'real' actress, but apparently Duff ain't it.
Not to be dissed and dismissed, Hilary recently fired back with the following:
"I think that my fans that are going to go see the movie don't even know who she is, so you know…. I think it was a little unnecessary but I might be mad if I looked like that now too."
Ouch. First of all, good for Hilary. For someone who hasn't had a respectable role in film for...well...maybe ever...she certainly can hold her own against the Oscar winning Dunaway. I'm thinking we should lock the two of them in a room together and let them hash it out. Or, better yet, they could settle their score Miley style and have a YouTube dance/sing off. I like the former better.

The Office Post- Superbowl Extravaganza

The Office Post- Superbowl Extravaganza

Having a spot after the Superbowl is pretty lucrative for any television show, so high expectations are sure to be attached.  Luckily for The Office, they went above and beyond.  For those of you who enjoy the show, you know there have been many episodes that left you with a pain in your stomach from laughing so hard.  I never really thought anything could top last season's "Dinner Party" however "Stress Relief" was the funniest.  ever. Every single character had several hilarious lines and Steve Carell was really on his game.  For me, being the hopeless romantic I am, really loved the Jim/Pam goodness.  Best fictional couple, EVER.  In addition to being absolute insanity, they also debuted a new opening credit sequence, which featured everyone from the cast, plus a few great clips, which was a great upgrade.  Although certain characters are more dominant than others, the show wouldn't be what it is without every single member of the cast.  The opener is posted in the blog directly below since I haven't fully figured out how to use this site! Enjoy!!!!
As Michael Scott would say, this episode was "boss"
Remember when people used to say "boss" when they were describing something really cool. Like, "those shoulder pads are really boss man." "Look at that perm, that perm is so boss!" It's what made me want to become a boss. And I looked so good in a perm and shoulder pads. But now, boss is just slang, for jerk in charge. - Michael Scott

Here's what I've discovered about the aforementioned, ill conceived, 10 Things I Hate About You re-make. Gil Junger, the director of the movie, will direct the pilot of the series WHICH TOTALLY INTENDS TO RIP THE MOVIE OFF.
The cast list is up online and reads like this:

Here are my thoughts: Yeah for Larry Miller. That's it. Meaghan Jette Martin can't hold a candle to Larissa Oleynik. And don't get me started on Lindsey Shaw as Julia Stiles. I can tell this will not go well.

"10 Thing I Hate About You" TV Show Say What?

You can say that I'm a fan of 10 Things I Hate About You. What defines fan, you ask?
*I have basically the entire movie memorized.
*I can recite the poem that Julia Stiles reads at the end and cry at the appropriate time
*It's the only film I own in BOTH VHS and DVD

I'm not psychotic, just indebted. 10 Things was the perfect film at the perfect time for me. It came out when I was in junior high. It was a film about finding yourself during the time I was trying to, well, find myself. It put Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles on the map. It made singing sexy (thanks again Heath). It made Shakespear slightly cool. And it made everyone want Allison Janney to be their guidance councilor.
Now I see on Variety that ABC Family has given a ten episode order to a TV series of the same title! This is blasphemy! Heath Ledger is rolling over in his grave at the thought. I can't imagine a scenario in which this is ok.
And yet, as I write this, I realize I'm old and thus there is an entire generation who probably haven't even seen the movie which had such an impact on my existence. Even so, some things should just be left alone.

Emma Watson: On Being Sexy

Emma Watson, best known for her role as the overachieving (that's what I use instead of nerd considering my friends tell me I fall into that same category) Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise told a British magazine that being sexy, well, isn't all that sexy.
The young star claims that during photo shoots she's constantly being prodded to change her hair cut or color, wear more revealing clothing, and look sexier. Watson's response:
"Personally, I don't actually think it’s even that sexy. What's sexy about saying, 'I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt … have a look at everything I've got'?

"My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder."
All I can say here is kudos to her. She could have folded under the pressure of being a young star (read: Lindsay Lohan, Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears) and instead has held her own. In my opinion that shows that this is one actress with longevity who should easily outlast her Harry Potter days.

More "New Moon" Casting Non-Sense

Twilight fans have been left in a limbo after the initial thrill of the series, and now the dust settling around the first film. As a result they've had nothing better to do than speculate about the casting for the next film in the franchise: New Moon.
At first fans got their shorts in a knot when Vanessa Hudgens was named as a possible character, then came news that Dakota Fanning was offered a part. The Dakota rumor was given more juice this week when Privileged star Lucy Hale (you've also seen her in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2) said she auditioned for the same role as Fanning and was confident that Fanning was offered the role.
Both Hale and Fanning read for the role of Jane. While I understand this is major casting news, I don't understand why people care nearly so much. Jane is not even that substantial of a character in New Moon. That doesn't mean that Hollywood WON'T make Jane into a substantial character in the movie version. Three quarters of New Moon focus on the relationship triangle between Edward, Bella, and Jacob.
The key is for people not to have a coronary quite yet. Dakota Fanning may not be the ideal Jane in reader's eyes, but Hollywood has worked miracles in the past, and her insignificance as a character may result in her being overlooked in favor of the important roles (like Jacob) anyway.
