CW is Screwing me Over Again

Everytime I find a show I like the damn CW takes it away. It happened last year with Life is Wild (which, by the way, I fully admit was not a GREAT show, but it was given the worst time slot on the network so its survival rate was pretty low). This year it's happened again with Privileged. The witty comedy starring Joanna Garcia and Lucy Kate Hale was finally picking up steam when the network decided it wasn't worthy of a second season. Honestly? You pick up shows like One Tree Hill (which I love) and Smallville for their 75th seasons, but you won't continue to build a fresh new brand with more potential staying power? No wonder the network suffers. Look at their most popular shows: Gossip Girl and 90210. They're new. They're fresh. And they're taping into a new market and generation of TV viewers. One Tree Hill could have easily ended the series this year. The finale felt more like a series finale and viewers would have been (hell I was) thrilled with its conclusion. Don't pull a 7th Heaven and keep a show around until none of the original cast is even in it and no one cares anymore.
The other piece of bad news I read today is that the CW won't be picking up the spin-off pilot for the fall. Dawn Ostroff, the president of the network claims there's still hope for the show, especially for a mid-season pick up, but that there were so many good new pilots they were having a hard time making a decision. Well there shouldn't have been such a hard time. Every show Josh Schwartz touches turns to gold. Examples: The O.C. Chuck, and Gossip Girl. Why would you throw away a chance for another success with a built in fan base? Again I don't understand the decision making process. If Melrose Place starring Ashlee Simpson gets picked up over the Gossip Girl spin-off then Dawn Ostroff should be fired on the spot.

Melrose Place Casting News

I've got bad news. The CW's new edition of "Melrose Place" just got an a new cast mate. It's been announced that Ashlee Simpson (yes THAT Ashlee Simpson) is going to be joining the primetime drama.
Why is this a bad thing? Oh let me count the ways...
First of all, did you see Ashlee in "7th Heaven"? (I don't blame you if you didn't, the show sucked after Jessica Biel left and Ashlee didn't join until it was into it's ten zillionth season). Ashlee Simpson is one of the worst actresses I've ever seen. The worst part is that you know the CW is going to pull a Disney channel and try to exploit Simpson's "singing talents" (I use quotes because I don't think she can sing either...SNL...). Let me guess...Ashlee plays a character with a "hidden" talent that is exposed in an episode consisting of a big concert of some sort where she suddenly is thrust into the lime light and then wows the crowd with a new single that will immediately appear on iTunes following the show. Pardon my cynicism, I just feel like I've seen that before.
You'd think the CW would have learned form it's predecessor's mistake. Look at the trailer I found for the introduction of Ashlee's character on the WB's "7th Heaven" below. Tell me that didn't blow up in their face...

The Buzz: Jamie Lynn still not an adult, Molly Ringwald is back,

* Being pregnant at 17 sounds a little better...right?
-Jamie Lynn Spears is no longer pregnant at 16, that's because today she celebrates her 17th birthday. Which means, that the actress and younger sis of Britney, STILL isn't a legal adult.

*Almost 7th Heaven...
-Brenda Hampton, the writer of TV's longest latesting family drama 7th Heaven, is bringing a new family drama to...well, ABC Family. The drama which will center around pregnant teenager (anyone else seeing a pattern here?) played by Shailene Woodley is also set to star former teen queen Molly Ringwald. The 40 year old Ringwald is best known for the popular 80's flicks, Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles.

*Leatherheads hopes to score big
-The highly anticipated Leatherheads starring and directed by George Clooney opens today nationwide. This is the first time that a Clooney directed flick has made it to wide release and the studios are banking on it to bring in the dough.
