BEST. NEWS. EVER.

I was disappointed when I first heard that Zac Efron gave up the lead in the "Footloose" remake. Now I'm thinking it was the best move he ever made.
It has been confirmed that Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford has been given the lead. Let's put it this way...this is like finding out on your 21 first birthday that your first legal pull at a slot machine just netted you 1,000 dollars. Ok, maybe not quite, but I still think this is the best news out of Hollywood since...well I can't think of anything to compare it to right now because I'm still in euphoria.
Chace will join an already star-filled lineup which includes "Hayden Panettiere, Amanda Bynes and "Dancing With the Stars" pro dancer Julianne Hough", according to US Weekly.
If you are as big a fan of this news as I mean then keep checking back because I promise I'll find every update possible to post on the EBUZZ blog. Thank God it's coming out next year so the wait won't be for too ridiculously long.

Gossip Girl Spin-off?!

I love Gossip Girl. But is there enough Upper-East side love for a spin-off? The folks at the CW hope so. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Gossip Girl executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are moving forward with plans for a spin-off that will follow a teenage Lily van der Woodsen through 1980s L.A. A backdoor pilot is set to air May 11.

Here is why I don't think this will work:

*Too much like Star Wars-

Going backwards in the life of a character as deep as Ms. van der Woodesen seems like trouble. We already know that she and Rufus had a thing, she got knocked up, and did some "artistic" modeling. Filling in the the rest of Lily's holes could get obnoxious. No matter where the series goes, it will have to end up in the present day or true Gossip Girl fans will be nothing but annoyed.

*A show about the past can't work alongside a show about the present.

Who wants to watch Lily van der Woodsen break the space-time-continum? On Monday nights she's in her 40s, on Tuesdays she'll be in her teens again. That's just too confusing.

*Casting-

You've already got one of the hottest casts on TV in Gossip Girl. Will the CW be able to bring the same magic to a spin-off? I doubt they'll be able to find another Chace Crawford out there. Plus the chemistry between Leighton Meester and Blake Lively is one of a kind. Try and find that in another set of teen stars and you're just asking for trouble.

*Character Sympathy-

Out of all the characters to do a spin-off with why Lily? Do we really have enough sympthy for the dysfunctional mother to want to watch her turmoil filled childhood? If the CW had wanted to give Chace Crawford his own show, I'd understand. I'd even have gotten onboard for a Bass based spin-off (they could have saved Bart's life and a potentailly awesome story-line).

The Buzz part. deux: text message break up, Thursday Night Live?, Pam Anderson's reality

* Text Message Dump
-Damn technology. In today's society when couples break up they don't even have to do it in person! Carrie Underwood has dished to the press that her breakup with Gossip Girl's star Chace Crawford was done via text messaging. She claims it was "completely mutual". I wonder if that's because when they broke up Chace didn't have any service and couldn't respond in disagreement.

*Pam Anderson's reality
-Haven't you always wondered what goes through Pamela Anderson's head? Good news...you'll get to find out thanks to a new E! reality show. The former Baywatch star will fly solo in the series, meaning you won't get to see her kids. The network's release regarding the new series had this to say: “Viewers will get to know the real woman behind the famous breasts and follow Pam as she tries to juggle love, career and peace of mind. Going beyond the fame and fortune, this is Pam at her core, living her life with no regrets.”
Yeah that doesn't sound very exciting. A better reality show would be "Pam Anderson's plastic Surgeon". It's be like Dr. 90210 only better.

*SNL on Thursday?
-Maybe it's just me, but the whole point of Saturday Night Live being called Saturday Night Live IS THAT IS AIRS ON SATURDAYS AND IS LIVE!!! The peacock apparently didn't watch High School Musical because they sure as heck aren't sticking to the status quo. NBC has ordered up new episodes of SNL with specific politically themed sketches to air on Thursdays after The Office. The show will run in the weeks directly before the 2008 election. Here's my question: Are they going to open with 'Live from New York it's NOT Saturday Night!!!"
